I believe intercontinental is one of the best hotels Iever stayed in my life.. the facilities are excelent, and the service OUTSTANDING.. if going to Buenos Aires, I highly recommend it..:)
We stayed just one night in a standard room because our flight was rescheduled. The room with a comfortable bed was ok, but could have been in any other clean North American hotel chain. Same for the chicken that we got as a dinner organised by the carrier as well as for the decoration in the restaurant. Ok, but boring.
The Intercontinental Buenos Aires is superb. The room we got was very spacious with 2 double beds + a small sitting area - more than enough room for a couple + our daughter.
The breakfast buffet is highly recommended.
The only restaurant we tried in the hotel was in a leafy patio late in the evening of our arrival - food was good, not more, and rather expensive.
The inside swimming pool was heated and clean .The spa has a decent range of treatments and massages at reasonable prices - we paid c $50 for a 50 minute massage - although quality apparently varies according to the masseuse - my wife was not impressed with her treatment whilst mine was thoroughly enjoyable.
The service was excellent and staff were always willing to go the extra mile for any request of ours.
One additional tip - if you are a member of the Intercontinental hotels group Priority Club - consider upgrading to Ambassador status - it costs around $50 - but one of the welcome perks is a free night at any Intercontinental hotel when you stay 2 nights over a weekend. In our case we saved 1 nights charge ($222) out of the 3 nights we stayed due to this arrangement.
Enjoy!
The hotel is beautiful, but for the price the service is below average. We chose to upgrade to the executive floors for an extra $60 a night, which supposedly included extra options like a fruit basket and water daily, newspapers, and breakfast included in the executive salon.
We only got the fruit basket two of the fours days we were there, the paper once, and the Executive salon was closed on Easter morning. (Service in the main breakfast room, by the way, was terrible.) When we asked for a refund of the upgrade surcharge for just ONE of the nights, the clerk said we would have to fill out a complaint form and leave it with the front desk.
Other irritations: U.S. prices in the bar, but lousy service; Internet service at $15 a day, and no irons in the rooms. (But hotel ironing for $3 a garment!) The location is also not great. Relatively close to the San Telmo district, but far away from the other main shopping areas. The hotel seems to be popular with airline crews and sports teams, perhaps because of relatively easy access to the highway that goes out to the international airport.
If you can afford it, check out nicer hotels closer to San Martin Plaza or the Recoleta area. If you're on a budget, there are plenty of bed and breakfasts in Palermo Viejo or Recoleta that are not as plush as the Interconti, but much closer to the action.
I visited Buenos Aires and Argentina with my brother and chose the Intercontinental. The currency exchange rate is very favorable for USD and the value is unbelieveable - great location, accommodations, service, etc. The restaurants were everything you'd expect. The hotel is within walking distance of the Obelisk (slightly long walk - but a good one) and main streets. The only negative thing I'd say is that I caught a terrible cold at the hotel - due to the air conditioning vent being located directly above the bed in the room. It blew cold air on me constantly. I got so sick that I had to stay in bed for two days later on during my holiday in another part of the country. Also, I mailed several postcards to the US at the hotel -bought the stamps from the business center on the second floor and dropped them in the mailbox at the front desk. The postcards never made it to my friends and family in the States.
